Updated October 13, 2026.
Permanent Marker is one of the most recognizable newer exotics. Part of its fame is the name, and part is a flavor profile that people either love or find strange. Here is what is widely reported about it, what is contested, and how to judge a THCA batch.
Lineage and breeder
Permanent Marker is commonly listed as (Biscotti x Sherb Bx) x Jealousy, credited to Seed Junky Genetics and released through the Doja Pak line. Details are contested. One outlet places the release in 2022, while another notes the first seed drop in 2023, and earlier names that circulate online are unsourced. Leafly also named it Strain of the Year for 2023, which is Leafly's own award, not a quality standard. Treat the lineage as "reported."
Flavor and aroma
This is the strain's calling card, and descriptions are all over the place:
- Sugared blackberry or berry candy
- Gas and chemical notes, which may explain the name
- Soapy, floral or tobacco-like in some batches
The "marker" comparison to the smell of an actual marker is a reasonable guess from the aroma, not something confirmed by the breeder.
Terpenes
Terpene data is thin. One database lists myrcene first, followed by limonene and caryophyllene, but other sources give no numbers. If you care about the terpene profile, only a batch COA can answer it.
Effects people report
Reports lean relaxing, with a heavy body feel and euphoria. One review recommends it for evenings rather than focus tasks. Dry eyes are a commonly mentioned side effect. As with any strain, how it feels depends on the batch, your tolerance and the dose.
Indica, sativa or hybrid?
Sources disagree. Leafly lists it as a hybrid, another outlet calls it an indica hybrid, and some retailers sell it as indica. We list our Permanent Marker pre-roll as indica. Labels are loose, so go by the effects you feel.
What to check on a THCA batch
- THCA percentage and total cannabinoids
- Total terpenes and the top three
- Safety panel: pesticides, heavy metals, microbials
- Harvest or test date, so you know how fresh it is
