A hash hole joint is a pre-roll with a concentrate core running through the middle. As it burns, the core leaves a donut-like hole in the center, which is where the name comes from. If you are shopping for one, the hard part is not finding listings. It is telling a real hash hole from a regular pre-roll with a fancy name. This guide covers what should be inside, what a fair price looks like, and what to check on the page before you buy.
What is actually inside a hash hole joint?
A true hash hole has two parts: whole-bud flower on the outside and a piece of concentrate threaded through the center. Press coverage credits the format to a Los Angeles producer who first made one in March 2018, and it spread from there. For a plain-English history and how they are made, read our hash hole pre-roll guide.
Here is how ours are built, so you have a reference point:
- Flower: 1.25g of whole-bud THCa flower
- Core: 0.25g of THCa live badder through the center
- Total: 1.5g per joint
Each one is named for both parts, for example Lava Cake + Gush Mintz: Lava Cake is the flower and Gush Mintz is the badder core. That naming is a good test. If a listing never tells you what the core is, ask why.
What should a hash hole joint cost?
The easiest way to compare is price per gram of total weight. Prices below are what we charge at the time of writing, so you can see how the format stacks up against other pre-rolls.
| Pre-roll type | Total weight | Price | Price per gram |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard single | 1g | $12 | $12.00 |
| Premium single | 1g | $18 | $18.00 |
| Hash hole | 1.5g | $20 | $13.33 |
| Hash hole (premium flower) | 1.5g | $25 | $16.67 |
| Infused mini | 0.5g | $12 | $24.00 |
The takeaway: a hash hole costs about the same per gram as a standard pre-roll, but a quarter of the weight is concentrate. That is why the format punches above its price. For a deeper breakdown of every pre-roll size, see our pre-roll sizes and prices guide.
A word on very cheap listings. We looked at hemp hash hole listings online this month and saw prices as low as $5.99 for 2g. Concentrate costs real money, so a price that low should make you ask what the core is, how much of it there is, and whether there is a lab report to back it up.
A quick checklist before you buy
- Is the core named? Look for the specific concentrate (badder, rosin, live resin), not just "infused."
- Is the weight split out? You want to see flower weight and core weight, not only a total.
- Is the flower whole bud? Trim and shake burn hot and fast. See whole bud vs shake pre-rolls.
- Is there a batch COA? Cannabinoid numbers should match the batch you are buying. Our COA reading guide walks through it.
- Is the compliance line clear? Delta-9 should stay under 0.3% by dry weight, and the page should tell you where it ships.
How to smoke a hash hole joint
Go slower than you would with a regular joint. The core adds concentrate, so one hash hole hits harder than a plain gram.
- Light evenly. Toast the whole tip first so the flower and the core catch together.
- Rotate as you pull. This helps the core burn with the flower instead of tunneling.
- Take a couple of pulls and wait. Give it a few minutes before going back in.
- Share it. At 1.5g, a hash hole is built for two.
Hash hole vs other infused pre-rolls
Not every infused pre-roll is a hash hole. Infused minis have concentrate worked into the flower, and moonrock-style joints are dipped and coated. We compare them side by side in hash hole vs infused pre-roll vs moonrock.

Hash hole joints FAQ
Are hash hole joints stronger than regular pre-rolls?
Generally yes, because a share of the weight is concentrate instead of flower. Potency depends on the batch, so check the COA and start with a few pulls.
What is the difference between a hash hole and a moonrock?
A hash hole has a concentrate core through the center. A moonrock-style product is flower dipped in concentrate and coated in kief. Different construction, different burn.
How long does a hash hole joint last?
At 1.5g it is usually a two-person session, or several shorter sessions for one person. The slow-burning core extends it.
Do hash hole joints need special storage?
Keep them in a cool, dark place in the tube they come in. Heat softens the core. Our storage guide has the details.
21+ only. Cannabinoid content varies by batch. This is general information, not legal advice. Check your state's rules before ordering; see where THCA flower is still legal.
